LOS ANGELES Mauricio Guerrero was born in Santiago, Chile. As a teen, he played in local rock bands as a multi-instrumentalist focusing on drums, bass, keyboards and guitar. In his early 20’s, Mauricio’s group Aparato Raro achieved rock star status, and filled stadiums throughout South America. He concurrently attended Universidad de Chile where he studied civil engineering for 3 years before deciding to switch to audio engineering and pursue his passion for a career in music. Soon after graduation, he made the move to LA, and immediately started working with Humberto Gatica. While with Humberto, Mauricio was privileged to be involved in productions with David Foster, Chicago, Neil Diamond and Celine Dion to name a few. Moving on, Mauricio got involved in the R&B and Hip Hop scene with artists such as Bell, Biv, Devoe, Sinbad and MC Hammer. Some time after that, he began working with Juan Gabriel, Bebu Silvetti, Chayanne, Placido Domingo, Jose Feliciano, Raphael, Mijares, Lucero and a host of other Latin artists. In 1996 Mauricio’s work with Harry Kim and The Vine Street Horns led to 3 summer tours and a live CD with the Phil Collins Big Band. During performances at the Montreaux Jazz Festival, Mauricio engineered an award winning documentary based on Phil’s big band approach to his greatest hits. In 1997 Mauricio received a Grammy for his work on Luis Miguel’s Romances CD. He was also actively involved in the recording of Marc Anthony’s first English language CD. By now Mauricio’s reputation was respected by many in the industry. Emilio Estefan started flying him to Miami on a regular basis to add his expertise to his most important projects. Mauricio received his 2nd Grammy for Gloria Estefan’s Alma Caribeña CD. The same year he received his 3rd Grammy for Shakira’s MTV Unplugged CD. Upon settling back in LA, Mauricio went through an intense spiritual search and found his Lord And Savior Jesus Christ. From that moment on his focus has been to use his talents to give glory to God. Once again in 2005, Mauricio was called to work with Shakira on Fijación Oral Vol I and received 2 additional Grammy’s (2006). One of these two awards is his most prized Grammy for Best Engineered Recording. Mauricio has also worked with legendary songwriter and producer Rudy Perez on projects that range from Beyonce to Los Temerarios. During this time, Rudy asked him to produce Beyoncé’s vocals in Spanish for a Michele Obama campaign to fight child obesity called “Let’s Move”. He was also called to produce vocals in Spanish for Natalie Cole, for an upcoming production. Alongside the great italian arranger, producer, multi-instrumentalist and friend Piero Vallero, Mauricio has been involved in the creation and international promotion of an amazing string orchestra from Turin, Italy called “The Labirinto Strings Orchestra”. This orchestra has been a part of numerous recordings since its creation in 2007. In the summer of 2012, Mauricio had the honor of being a part of Maxim Vengerov’s latest CD recording at Dinemec Studios in Gland, Switzerland. Maxim is arguably one of the top 3 violin players in the world right now. This same year, he received his 6 Grammy Award for his work on Pepe Aguilar’s “Más de un Camino”. In June of 2012, Mauricio was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Shepherd University in Los Angeles, California. At this time, he is the Head of the Production and Recording Arts Department at Shepherd University. This is a new and exciting opportunity that opens up for Mauricio since it has always been in his heart to pass on all of his knowledge and expertise to the up and coming generations. His hope is that everything he has been blessed with in the music industry can, in turn, be a blessing for as many people as possible. In the last few years, Mauricio reunited with one of his mentors, Emilio Estefan Jr, and together they have been working on a number of new projects that will be coming out in the next few months, with artists like the Italian tenors trio IL Volo, Gloria Estefan, and many more to come. Currently, Mauricio is developing a space entertainment company that will revolutionize both the space and entertainment industry by producing various “first in history” events that will combine music and cutting edge technology. These events will capture the attention of the masses, and his aim is to create awareness of the fragility of our planet, and the urgency to do something about it before it’s too late. His prayers are that the Lord will bless this new endeavor, so the world can unite in protecting His precious creation, our only home, our planet Earth. Our children deserve to inherit a place worth living in, and it’s our responsibility to protect it. |
